Womens Football in Britain with Clare Balding and guests

This event has finished Took place on: Monday, 20th May 2019

 £15.00

A celebration of the history of the game

As the World Cup approaches, women’s football has a higher profile than ever, but its history in this country hasn’t always been easy. Despite drawing huge crowds 100 years ago, women footballers faced an extraordinary ban from playing at professional grounds from 1921 until 1971. To accompany an exhibition of unique material from the Women’s FA, broadcaster and writer Clare Balding hosts a discussion with leading lights from the game. The event will be preceded by a free screening of Clare’s TV documentary When Football Banned Women.
