Gresham's World: Global Traffic, Trade, and the Metamorphosis of England

  6:00 pm - 7:00 pm

Global trade and traffic, many of Gresham’s contemporaries would say, had altered sixteenth-century England beyond recognition, from its food, fashion, and  language,  to  the  look  and  feel  of  its  cities  and  neighbourhoods.  How  did  its subjects  respond  to  this  transformation?

Using  contemporary  print  and  theatre, this lecture will discuss how England and Englishness was defined, even as the  boundaries  between  the  home  and  the  world  became  increasingly  diffuse.

No reservations are required for this lecture. It will be run on a ‘first come, first served’ basis.
Doors will open 30 minutes before the start of the lecture

Cost: Free of Charge
