Bestselling authors Ben Aaronovitch and Andrew Cartmel have a shared history in science fiction writing and script writing and editing for television. Both worked on the TV show 'Doctor Who' and Andrew's history as a comic writer led to a collaboration on several graphic novel spin-offs of Ben's bestselling 'Rivers of London' series. Andrew has also written his hugely successful 'Vinyl detective' series.

In this free event Ben and Andrew will be discussing their books, answering your questions and signing copies of their books; which will also be available to purchase at the event.

Ben Aaronovitch

Born and raised in London, Ben Aaronovitch now lives in Kentish Town. He worked as a scriptwriter for Doctor Who and Casualty before the inspiration for his own series of books struck him whilst working as a bookseller in Waterstones Covent Garden. Ben Aaronovitch’s unique novels are the culmination of his experience of writing about the emergency services and the supernatural.

Andrew Cartmel

Andrew Cartmel was the show runner on Doctor Who for the entire Sylvester McCoy Seventh Doctor era, establishing McCoy's Doctor as a master-player of dangerous games, a weaver of cosmic strategies, and a powerful and towering enigma under alien skies (the ‘Cartmel Masterplan’). He also presided over the introduction of the character of Ace as played by Sophie Aldred — one of the most influential Doctor Who companions ever, and definitely the first to attack a Dalek with a baseball bat.  He has written a memoir about working on Doctor Who, Script Doctor, three classic New Adventures novels (the War trilogy), another Seventh Doctor novel Atom Bomb Blues, plus such classic Doctor Who graphic novels as Evening’s Empire and The Good Soldier and a series of audio adventures for Big Finish. Andrew is currently collaborating with Ben Aaronovitch on writing the bestselling Rivers of London comics for Titan. Five graphic novels are available — Body Work, Night Witch, Black Mould, Detective Stories and Cry Fox — with a new mini-series, Water Weed, appearing now. The first three of Andrew’s Vinyl Detective crime novels — Written in Dead Wax, The Run Out Groove  and Victory Disc — are in bookshops now, also published by Titan, with a fourth on the way.
