Grab your magnifying glass and discover a land of tiny treasures

Miniature books are not just regular-sized books made smaller. They contain a wealth of secret history and reveal the extraordinary possibilities of typefaces and artistic binding.

In this richly illustrated talk, Simon Garfield consults the tiny volumes at the British Library and uncovers a wide range of ornate and illuminating treasures.

He describes the battle to make the smallest book in the world (visible only with a microscope) and recounts his eye-opening visit to the annual convention of the Miniature Book Society.

Your optician won’t thank you, but your hernia clinic will.

Simon Garfield is the author of more than a dozen books of non-fiction, including the bestsellers Just My Type, On The Map and To The Letter. The End of Innocence, his study of AIDS in Britain, won the Somerset Maugham Prize. His latest book is In Miniature: How Small Things Illuminate the World.
