John Boughton, author of Municipal Dreams: The Rise and Fall of Council Housing, and Sonia Zhuravlyova, co-author of Prefabs: A Social and Architectural History, invite you to a talk on the history of council housing and the place of post-war prefabs within it.
About the authors:
Traversing the nation, John Boughton's book offers an architectural tour of some of the best and most remarkable of our housing estates, as well as many accounted ordinary; he asks us to better understand their complex story and to rethink our prejudices. John's talk will include examples in Lewisham, such as the Downham, Honor Oak, Pepys, Grove Park and Chinbrook Estates.
Prefabs recounts the history of post-war prefabs and how these hard-working little houses served the nation after the devastation of the Second World War. Learn about their architecture and what life was like in the prefabs. There are still prefabs in Catford –– see them at the Excalibur Estate.
