Kitty Clive (1711-1785) was a top London stage star. Renowned in theatre, opera and musical comedy, she transfixed audiences in everything from popular productions to works by Purcell, Shakespeare, Dryden, Henry Fielding and Handel. Historian Berta Joncus explores Clive’s life story, together with Gwen Martin and Marta López who perform music written specifically for Clive by Handel and Thomas Arne. For music historians, theatre scholars and anyone curious about performance history and star production in 18th-century Britain, her story is not to be missed.

Berta Joncus is a music scholar, critic, journalist and project consultant embracing technology to advance musical practice and research. She champions digital media as a means to transform music and knowledge about music. Joncus is a Senior Lecturer at the Department of Music, Goldsmiths. As an established female academic, she hopes to encourage other women to take up leadership roles in and outside the academy.
