LFA - Exploring the Docklands’ data centres

Join this walking tour exploring the Docklands' data centres led by Tom Ravenscroft, architectural historian and deputy editor of Dezeen.

While most perceive data centres to be located in giant sheds in remote locations, like the Arctic Circle or Californian desert, these buildings are not characteristic of the typology. The Internet does not live in futuristic far-flung buildings. Rather, data centres are often hidden within our cities - some 58 located within London.

Starting at East India DLR and ending in Canary Wharf, this tour will visit some of the city's largest and newest data centres. Tom will explain the key characteristics of the typology and importance of the buildings based on research carried out for his Masters in Architectural History at The Bartlett.
