Stanfords welcomes Rachel Kolsky as she talks about her new book Women’s London: A Tour Guide to Great Lives.
2018 marks a significant year for women: Vote100, organised by Parliament, celebrates the anniversary of when so many women received the right to vote for the very first time. Statues are due to be unveiled in London for both suffragist and campaigner Millicent Fawcett and suffragette and socialist activist Sylvia Pankhurst.
As well as those campaigning for Votes for Women, Rachel will be talking about many other women who have shaped London through the centuries and the legacy they have left behind, from the queen of crime Agatha Christie to a statue of Amy Winehouse in Camden Town with her frail frame and signature hairdo.
Women’s London explores sights, statues, plaques and buildings associated with famous (and some not so famous) women who have left their mark on London’s heritage, culture and society. Did you know that the oldest surviving Blue Plaque to a woman, unveiled in 1885 in Mayfair, is for Fanny Burney who published her first novel anonymously in 1778?
Tickets £4 (redeemable against the cost of Women's London by Rachel Kolsky) includes a glass of wine/ soft drink.
Cost: £3.88
