The London Metropolitan Archives team will introduce you to some of the wonderful collections which tell the amazing stories of women and power in the capital. You will discover women campaigners, factory workers, reformers, politicians, apprentices, artists and engineers going back through the centuries.
Throughout the day there will be a range of creative activities suitable for all the family including the Great Document Explorer Discovery Quiz, Conservation Crafts and Signs of the Times signwriting workshop with practicing craftswomen. There is also opportunity to take inspiration from the collections and to join in Women, Power and the Future: creative collage, writing and drawing. What opportunities do you see ahead? What ambitions do you have?
There will also be film material running throughout the day and a series of short talks, aimed at older visitors, on inspirational women, including Henrietta Barnett and Elizabeth Garrett-Anderson. Additionally, you can take a behind the scenes tour with members of LMA staff over the lunch break. The exhibition, ‘Picturing Forgotten London’ will be available all day.
