London Craft Week - Sublime Symmetry – Celebrating De Morgan

London Craft Week - Sublime Symmetry – Celebrating De Morgan

This event has finished Took place on: Thursday, 10th May 2018

Discover an exhibition of over 80 pieces by William De Morgan, the most important and inventive ceramist of the Victorian Arts & Crafts movement. On Thursday 10 May, join curator Sarah Hardy for a preview tour of the exhibition. The exhibition continues until Sunday 28 October.

A marriage of art and mathematics, William De Morgan’s ceramic designs were the most significant of the late Victorian period. His fantastical beasts wrap themselves around the contours of vases, tiles and plates, and his manipulation of fanciful flora demonstrates unparalleled artistic skill. His work is captivating not just for its intrinsic beauty, but for the intelligence of its design.

In an exhibition of over 80 works, discover how De Morgan applied mathematical ingenuity to create enthralling art that still enchants today. The opening weekend also sees a programme of family activities all centred around arts, crafts and mathematics.

Cost: £6.88
