Carlo Rovelli: The Order of Time

Carlo Rovelli: The Order of Time

This event has finished Took place on: Wednesday, 25th Apr 2018

Discover the latest work by theoretical physicist Carlo Rovelli, whose Seven Brief Lessons on Physics became one of the fastest-selling science books ever, with over 1.2 million copies sold worldwide. In his new work, Rovelli explores the problem that has driven a lifetime of research: what is time?

Rovelli shows that in fact time is a thing with differing layers, from the fundamental level where it disappears, up through the mechanistic, thermodynamic, biological systems which impose their different orders, to the illusory, emotional, human experience of time. He is joined in conversation by writer and academic Eva Hoffman.

To receive a pre-signed copy of The Order of Time at the event, please select the appropriate option when buying your tickets.

There will also be a bookstall at the event, and Rovelli will be signing books on the night.

Carlo Rovelli is Professor of Physics and head of the school of quantum gravity at Marseille University, having also worked worldwide at MIT, Cambridge and Rome. With Professor Lee Smolin he is the co-founder of Loop Quantum Gravity Theory. He comes from Verona.

Eva Hoffman’s books include Lost in Translation, Illuminations, After Such Knowledge and Human Time. She has worked as senior editor and literary critic at The New York Times, has written and broadcast numerous radio programs and has lectured internationally on subjects of exile, historical memory, cross-cultural relations and other contemporary issues. She is currently a Visiting Professor at the European Institute at UCL and lives in London.
