With its long and distinguished but often overlooked heritage, remarkable cultural diversity and a steadily growing reputation for staging innovative arts, sports and community-focused events including ‘Warhol Croydon’, ‘Dance Umbrella’ and ‘Lumiere’, Croydon is a prime contender to be crowned the first ever London Borough of Culture when the winner is announced in February, 2018.
A cornerstone of Croydon’s cultural renaissance will be the newly refurbished and much-loved Fairfield Halls which is being given a £30 million facelift complete with 1,800 seater concert hall and new shops and offices.
