Bones to Bytes: Curating the Chinese Collections at the Library

Over 120,000 items covering 3000 years. Sara Chiesura, Lead Curator of East Asian Collections, introduces items from the Library’s Chinese collection and discusses how they are stored, shared and preserved for future generations using the newest digital technologies.

The material has been acquired since the Department of Printed Books in the British Museum was founded in 1753, the year of the foundation of the Museum itself, and the earliest items from China were collected by Sir Hans Sloane. Nowadays the Library continues to acquire both rare books and contemporary publications on topics such as the humanities and social sciences from the People's Republic of China, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Singapore.

Tickets are free and you don't need to book in advance, just drop in.
