The Derelict London Dirty Dartford Winter Special

This event has finished Took place on: Saturday, 27th Jan 2018

 Free

This Derelict London walking tour takes you out to the borders of Greater London and Kent. Paul has been exploring this area for many years and has decided that now is the time to give some guided tours before redevelopment really takes off in this fascinating town. Due to the darker late afternoons and colder weather this tour today is shorter than the alldayers offered at other times of the year though its a great opportunity to experience the marshes in Winter.

On this tour we see much dereliction including: a walk along the River Darent to the marshes to view wartime defences,an overgrown smallpox hospital site & the exteriors of the abandoned Wells Firework Factory. Back nearer the town we see the 'Lock-up' Dartford's first police station built in 1843, the Art Deco former Co-op,the sadly burnt out workhouse chapel, a whole street pretty much all boarded up after an ill-fated property deal with a major supermarket chain plus more run down industrial sites. All this plus some background history of the town along with some famous connections with King Henry V, Jane Austen, Maggie Thatcher, Peasant's Revolt & of course the Rolling Stones.

Meeting at Dartford Station at 10:30am and finishing around 4;30 ish. There will be a pub stop for refreshments along the way though make sure you have a hearty breakfast before we meet and wrap up warm! If you want to eat in Dartford before the walk I recommend Ossies Cafe for a full English. As usual there will be the opportunity for drinks with Paul at the end of the tour.

Please note that this walk is wholly above ground and there will be no subterranean trips down to the sewers and the tour does not involve trespassing on private property. We only view the exteriors of derelict sites. Dogs are welcome although there is no guarantee that they will be allowed into the pub.

By purchasing a ticket for a walk you are agreeing to the following terms and conditions:

Although public liability insurance is held the organiser shall not be held responsible for accidents, injury, loss or damage to persons or property as a consequence of participation in Paul Talling's walks.Ticket holders are responsible for their own safety while taking part in a walk. The guide is responsible for showing ticket holders sites of interest but not to steward ticket holders across roads etc.

The tour goes ahead regardless of the weather so come prepared for all weathers! No refunds due to inclement weather are given.

The walk will depart promptly at the advertised time & will not wait for late-comers. In the event that a ticket holder misses the walk no refund will be given. You are strongly urged to check TFL & local train company for weekend engineering works that may affect your journey

Once a ticket has been purchased the agency is unable to offer a refund.
