What are the unique possibilities of the graphic novel? And how has its appeal diversified and evolved in recent years? Explore current trends in graphic novels at home and abroad with cartoonist Tom Gauld and international comics expert Paul Gravett.
In his inimitable style, British cartoonist Tom Gauld opened comics to a crossover audience and challenged perceptions of what the medium can be. Noted as a 'book-lover’s cartoonist', Gauld’s weekly strips in The Guardian stitch together the worlds of literary criticism and pop culture to create brilliantly executed, concise comics that are simultaneously silly and serious.
Join Tom in conversation with journalist, curator, writer and broadcaster Paul Gravett. Paul has worked in comics publishing for over 30 years, and writes on comics for numerous publications including Comics International, ArtReview, The Comics Journal, Comic Art and Comics International, as well as helping to run the Comica comics festival and the Graphical Short Story contest.
