An evening of talks marking the 100th anniversary of the Russian Revolution. Leading academic experts on Soviet history and culture will explore its impact on childhood. Presentations will look at the Soviet children’s film studio Soiuzdetfilm and the Society for Co-operation in Russian and Soviet Studies’ incredible children’s literature collection, as well as exploring children’s literature and film as an escape from reality.
Dr Elizabeth White of UWE (Bristol), Senior Lecturer in History and expert on childhood in Russia during the 20th Century will be exploring the childhood experience during the Soviet period.
Dr Jeremy Hicks, Reader in Russian Culture and Film at QMUL will be speaking on the Soviet children’s film studio Soiuzdetfilm and its pioneering approach to representing children in cinema.
Jane Rosen Dip. Lib., MCLIP former Librarian of the Society for Co-operation in Russian and Soviet Studies will be exploring the Society’s incredible collections especially those relating to children’s literature.
Professor Catriona Kelly, Professor of Russian, University of Oxford will talk about childhood as an escape from reality in children’s literature and film of the Soviet Period
