By the late 16th century London historians were questioning the legendary origins of their city, once known as ‘New Troy’. Knowledge of the classical world had become available during the Renaissance, and rebuilding after the Great Fire revealed traces of this earlier time, meaning they were better placed to interpret the archaeological remains of Roman London.
Yet the popular belief that London must have been an already ancient city before the arrival of the Romans was hard to ignore. Join John Clark to learn more.
Includes wine reception.
