Join City of Westminster Guide Joanna Moncrieff on a walk discovering Mayfair's food & drink history.
Known for its exclusive hotels such as Claridge's, Brown's and the Connaught Mayfair has always been the place to visit for afternoon tea. Hear how this tradition came about together with the surprising histories of some of the world's most famous hotels. You will also hear about the Georgians' passion for ice cream, the binge eating composer and the famous gingerbread seller Tiddy Doll.
It’s not all about history though as we will pass the hidden cafes, cocktail bars and shops of the area including a famous auction house that serves a very reasonably priced afternoon tea and one of the best wine shops in London.
This walk lasts approximately 1 hour 45 minutes and will finish close to Green Park tube. No food or drink stops or tastings are included in this walk.
Meet near M&S, Stratton Street by the tube exit.
