The Great Escape: A history of day-tripping

7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

Inspired by one of our latest acquisitions, the beautiful 1914 Torpedo Charabanc, transport historian and LTM Fellow Oliver Green will be taking you on a tour back through time to the early 20th Century.

Hear how a rise in more efficient and affordable modes of transport opened up the joys of the British countryside and seaside resorts to the general public.

From leisure coach tours to Blackpool, and escapes to Southend on the train, the concept of the pleasure day-trip changed the way people were able to spend their leisure time, and paved the way to the dawning of an institution we hold dear to this day: the great British day-trip!

Cost: £12
