Western society has long outsourced conversations about death to doctors, nurses, priests, and undertakers, and as a result we have lost the ability to comfortably discuss the most profound and significant event we will all have to face. The first UK Death Cafe was set up in 2011 by Jon Underwood, not only to make the subject more palatable but also to 'help people make the most of their (finite) lives.'
For London Month of the Dead 2016, Louise de Winter will be hosting a death cafe at Highgate Cemetery Chapel on the 4th October while Stephen Coates will be in the Dissenters' Chapel in Kensal Green Cemetery on the 1st October.
These are free events devoted to discussing all aspects of mortality over light refreshments.
