Are we facing a construction skills crisis in housing?

This event has finished Took place on: Friday, 30th Sep 2016

Sadiq Khan allegedly pledged to build 80,000 homes a year in his election campaign; yet London (as well as the rest of the UK) has a widely acknowledged skills shortage in the construction industry, which is only set to get worse as more and more skilled labourers retire.

And what does Brexit mean for the large number of European workers who make up much of the remaining labour force? What can London’s built environment industry do to increase a skilled construction workforce that isn’t decimated every time we have an economic turndown? What does both central and local government need to do to support the industry on this?
