Discover key sites in the recent history of the East End through their associations with George Lansbury, local MP and leader of the Labour Party 1932-35. Led by Chris Sumner (grandson of the mayor at the time of the Poplar councillors’ revolt) and Malcolm Barr-Hamilton (Tower Hamlets archivist), this walk will introduce important moments in the history both of the local area and the Left. The walk finishes at Bow Church at 4-5pm, where Lansbury was churchwarden for many years, with tea and refreshment.
