The UK’s largest reflector telescope can be found, surprisingly, in North London, and while the lockdown carries on, they’re starting a series of virtual tours of the observatory.
Operated by University College London (UCL), the observatory was founded in 1925 and is one of the best-equipped astronomical facilities for student training and research in the UK. Although they normally run on-site tours, this looks incredibly unlikely this winter season, as they focus on keeping the site operating for teaching students and research.
Hence the virtual tours so that the general public can still see inside the observatory dome.
The tours are free to attend – you need to book a place here.
They are keeping number low for the first few full public runs in order to give their demonstrators chance to get to grips with the new virtual tours, but will increase the numbers as demand increases.
