The Southbank Centre’s Hayward Gallery has announced that it will reopen from this Saturday (1st August), with discounts for NHS workers and local residents.
When the gallery opens, NHS workers and Southbank Centre Members can visit for free and tickets are just £5 for under 30s and Lambeth residents. Entry is £12 for everyone else.
As is now commonplace with other venues, tickets need to be booked in advance.
The gallery reopens with its exhibition, Among the Trees, which celebrates key works of art that reimagine how we think about trees and forests. The exhibition invites you to consider trees as both cultural symbols and living organisms.
Unlike classical representations of landscape, many of the works in this exhibition avoid the easy orientation offered by foreground, vista and horizon. Instead, they invite us to get lost and to experience – on some level – that uncanny thrill of momentarily losing our way in a forest, and seeing our surroundings with fresh eyes.
Spanning the past 50 years, the exhibition brings together major works by 37 leading artists from across the globe.
The gallery will be open five days a week (11am-7pm Wednesday – Saturday, and 10am-6pm on Sunday).
The Hayward Gallery Shop will be open, the Hayward Gallery Cafe and cloakroom will remain closed, however, several restaurants, shops and cafes across the Southbank Centre site are open.
