Wake up sleepy heads, as the RED ARROWS are flying over London on Friday (8th May) morning for VE Day. According to an air traffic alert that’s just been posted, there will be a flypast over London just after 10am.

They will head in from East London, via Basildon, head over East Ham, then Westminster, heading out of London via Egham and Bracknell.

From previous experience, smokes will start around Shoreditch area, but the sight, and sound of the Red Arrows is something quite amazing even without smokes, so if you are up and out tomorrow morning and near the route, look out for the flypast.

Naturally, lock-down advice, don’t travel to see them, but their famous smokes will be visible from most of London if you can get a view of the skyline.

Update – I am aware that some news reports suggest the flypast is at 3pm, but this is an official air traffic alert, and it’s quite rare for them to wrong.

2nd update – The RAF Red Arrows twitter account just said “later this morning”, so it’s definitely a morning event.

That is why I have set up a facility with DonorBox where you can contribute to the costs of the website and time invested in writing and research for the news articles.

It's very similar to the way The Guardian and many smaller websites are now seeking to generate an income in the face of rising costs and declining advertising.

I thought the flypast at Buckingham Palace was 15.00 (BST)

    • Linda fuller says:

Red Arrows and just says central London. As Queen still not n Scotland for duration wouldn’t think anyone at palace.

  2. Lynsey Jordan says:

What part of Basildon will red arrows fly over, Not sure where to look? Thankyou

  3. Rob Townsend says:

I think there is now some confusion as to the time of the flypast. Will it be 10 am or 3 pm. The lines of commmunication have clearly broken down.

    • ianvisits says:

The UK’s air traffic control expect it in the morning, and I am inclined to believe they know what they are doing.

  4. Kristina Harmsworth says:

What time is the Spitfire? going over Bracknell…

  5. Anne Dyster says:

Thank you so much for this info, I live in Melton Mowbray so may be lucky looking at the routing. Have you any news on the BBMF? I only communicate by email. Brought up during the war near RAF Northolt and have loved aircraft ever since. Anne.

  6. Toby says:

It’s televised at 3pm but happens at 10am

    • Anne Dyster says:

Fairly distant but saw and heard the Arrows at Melton Mowbray.

  7. For those still wondering about the timings, It was definitely 10:09 – I saw them go by 👍

  8. Alice Maddison says:

Thank you for the info Ian, this was very much enjoyed by my friends and family in the Twickenham area!!

  9. John Drummond says:

Thanks for the alert. We saw them fly over East London. We also notice a few commercial aircraft going in to Heathrow in last few days after weeks of nothing. Are they freight perhaps?

  10. B.liddell says:

Why didn’t the red arrows fly over the Isle of Dogs? the Germans did it many times during the war!

    • Sheridan says:

They did. It’d be difficult for them to get from East Ham to Westminster without going via the Isle of Dogs! Also, I saw them heading in that direction…

  11. Helen says:

  12. lutsy says:
