Ever since the Night Overground service launched last year, it has skipped Whitechapel station – but not from tonight.

The Night Overground launched a year ago, on the 15th December 2017, and has seen around 250,000 journeys made along the Highbury & Islington to New Cross Gate route in the first year.

The Night Overground operated initially between Dalston Junction and New Cross Gate and was extended to Highbury & Islington in February 2018. From the start though, the trains skipped Whitechapel station as works were being undertaken by the Crossrail project.

Although Crossrail’s launch has been delayed, the works at Whitechapel have reached a point where the Overground can start calling there in the nights as well now.

SUPPORT THIS WEBSITE

This website has been running now for over a decade, and while advertising revenue contributes to funding the website, it doesn't cover the costs. That is why I have set up a facility with DonorBox where you can contribute to the costs of the website and time invested in writing and research for the news articles.

It's very similar to the way The Guardian and many smaller websites are now seeking to generate an income in the face of rising costs and declining advertising.

Whether it's a one-off donation or a regular giver, every additional support goes a long way to covering the running costs of this website, and keeping you regularly topped up doses of Londony news and facts.

If you like what you read on here, then please support the website here.

Thank you

    A simple notice, but the poster is great. Love the design.

    That’s good news that Whitechapel is now opened on London Overground during nights.

    Perhaps night service on the LO East London Line might extend to Crystal Palace, Clapham Junction and/or West Croydon. Aswell introducing night service on London Overground including on the North London Line (Stratford-Richmond) and West London Line (Willesden Junction-Clapham Junction). Or will it not happen at all.

      Sadly those lines aren’t owned by TfL, so they can’t get night-time running on them. I’d love a night train down to Crystal Palace and West Croydon, but I don’t think it’ll occur in the next few years.

      @Sykobee True.
