This winter, the behind the scenes tours of Tower Bridge return, offering access into the engineering spaces, and the huge bascule chambers under the main bridge.

The two-hour tours, which cost £50 per person, are divided into two parts.

Part One is very similar to the £10 public tours, although you get your own tour guide as well.

The second half of the tour is led by one of the Bridge’s Senior Technical Officers who will escort visitors to several areas normally out of bounds to the public, including the Bridge Control Room and the immense Bascule Chambers below river level.

The tour also includes the Machinery Room, which houses the impressive hydraulics that power the lifting of the Bridge.

The tours will continue from Saturday 3 November and run every Saturday and Sunday until the end of February

Tours start from 10.30am and last for approximately 2 hours with each tour limited to 12 places.

Cost: £50 per person, which includes a Tower Bridge souvenir guidebook.

Don’t forget that if you live in Southwark, Tower Hamlets or City of London you can visit the normal parts of Tower Bridge for just one pound – details here.
