It’s time to start plotting how we shall remember the downfall of a papist plot, and watch the skies over London explode with fireworks. And in a few locations, the display’s still include the traditional bonfire as well.
Normally, it’s possible to get a whole weekend of firework displays in across London, but this year, because the 5th November is a Monday, most venues are putting on their bonfire night displays on the Saturday evening, although a small handful are being nice and running displays on the Friday or Sunday.

Newham’s explosive free fireworks extravaganza at the historic Millennium Mills in the Royal Docks will have extra spark – thanks to an electrifying programme of entertainment supporting the firework display.
The event to mark Guy Fawkes Night will take place on Saturday 3 November at Silvertown Quays in the Royal Docks, E16 2BU, with gates opening at 6pm.
The display is a free event organised by Newham Council in partnership with the Royal Docks Team, which was established by the Mayor of London and Mayor of Newham to redevelop the Royal Docks.
In addition to an explosive fireworks display, dramatic soundtrack and Heart FM’s DJ Roberto as host, there will be performances from Lords of Lightning, Cirque Bijou, fun fair rides, a wide choice of mouth watering supper options and a bar.
Lords of Lightning are a duo who melds creative genius with electrical wizardry to create a breath-taking show called the Dual.
Dual is a titanic battle fought with searing shards of lightning, it is an extraordinary union of human movement and the volatile power of electricity unleashed. Fusing jaw-dropping science with spellbinding spectacle, the Lords of Lightning harness multi million volt bolts of white-hot electricity into explosive performances.
Also performing throughout the event are Cirque Bijou, a group which pushes the boundaries of contemporary circus, street theatre and spectacle, seeking out the new, unexpected and extraordinary.
From ethereal stilt walkers and beautiful light-up bird puppets to high-tech pixel poi, dazzling LED hula hoop and unforgettable fire performances, there’s something for everyone at this free, family friendly, accessible event.
In addition to a dazzling firework display and performances, the site will be artfully lit, illuminating the spectacular post-industrial structure that is Millennium Mills, throwing light on the many facades of the building that was once a hub of Silvertown life.

Transport advice:
Entry to the event is through the gates on Burt Road (off North Woolwich Road). Residents are advised to either walk, cycle or use public transport. Bikes are not permitted within the audience arena however bike racks are available near the entrance gates. Nearest station: Pontoon Dock on the DLR.
There is no public parking on the site with only limited blue badge spaces – access is from Connaught Bridge (A112) opposite the City Airport Jet Centre with the entrance off the airport roundabout.

Safety Advice:
Although tens of thousands of Newham residents enjoy the free Guy Fawkes fireworks display organised by Newham Council many continue to set off sparklers, rockets and other pyrotechnics well after 5 November.

Remember, remember…
• only buy fireworks marked with the British Standard Kitemark BS7114
• don’t drink alcohol if you’re setting off fireworks
• store your fireworks in a closed box
• follow the instructions on each firework
• light fireworks at arm’s length, using a taper
• Don’t ever go near a firework that has been lit. Even if it hasn’t gone off, it could still explode
• never put fireworks in your pocket or throw them
• always supervise children around fireworks and sparklers
• light sparklers one at a time – and wear gloves
• never give sparklers to a child aged under five, and remember that sparklers can stay hot after they’ve been put out
• Keep pets indoors.
