To mark 200 years since the House of Commons Library appointed its first Librarian, and to celebrate Libraries Week, the Library is open for tours again on Saturday 13 October.

Housed in Pugin designed rooms, the Library holds over 228,000 publications and runs an ever-growing research and information service. The Library team responds to around 30,000 enquiries and releases 800 briefings per year on a broad range of topics, on everything from bees to Brexit.

For one day, there’s a chance to explore this unique space normally reserved for MPs, discover the history of the Library and learn how its work supports democracy today.

These tours take one hour and run throughout the day.

Library tickets are £5 per person which also includes a Palace of Westminster guidebook.

Tickets can be purchased online, by calling 020 7219 4114 or in person from the Ticket Office at the front of Portcullis House on Victoria Embankment.

Photography is not permitted in the House of Commons Library. Due to the tour content, they advise a minimum age of 7.

SUPPORT THIS WEBSITE

This website has been running now for over a decade, and while advertising revenue contributes to funding the website, it doesn't cover the costs. That is why I have set up a facility with DonorBox where you can contribute to the costs of the website and time invested in writing and research for the news articles.

It's very similar to the way The Guardian and many smaller websites are now seeking to generate an income in the face of rising costs and declining advertising.

Whether it's a one-off donation or a regular giver, every additional support goes a long way to covering the running costs of this website, and keeping you regularly topped up doses of Londony news and facts.

If you like what you read on here, then please support the website here.

Thank you
