Train passengers are being warned that Euston station will be closed for three consecutive weekends in August and September.
The three weekends of closure is because Network Rail is replacing North Wembley junction – a major intersection on Europe’s busiest mixed-use railway.
The junction is old and needs replacing. It’s a modest-looking junction, being just a collection of four interchanges on the mainline railway allowing trains to swap between the fast and slow lines. However, the cluster are tight together and replacing them effectively cuts the four railway lines during the works.
Unfortunately completing this job requires shutting the whole line. The least disruptive time to do this work, jointly agreed by rail industry partners, is over the following three weekends:
- 18-19 August
- 25-27 August (bank holiday weekend)
- 1-2 September
Some journeys into London from stations normally served by Euston will be possible, but as they will be via alternative routes, expect a much longer journey. Virgin Trains has also announced that it will be lifting peak restrictions on the Fridays before these dates from 9:30am for the whole day.
Although there won’t be any trains, the station itself will remain open, along with access to London Underground throughout the three weekends.
This is also the conclusion of preparatory works that took place during a weekend closure earlier this year over the Easter weekend.
I know someone called “Gareth” who is my dad’s friend that works at London Euston station. And he told me that there will be big improvements to London Euston station because of HS2. Must be to do with the HS2 upgrade works. Or just little improvements.

I note that London Overground services are also suspended from Euston to Watford Junction on the affected weekends. The DC lines don’t look to have a connection to the junction. Is possession of the DC lines required to complete the works, or is something else going on?
Trainline will still let me buy a ticket from Euston on 2nd September. What would happen on the day when I arrived for my train at Euston?

A group of us will be in London for family wedding 1st 2nd September what is the alternative Virgin arrangements for travel back to Liverpool on the Sunday evening.

Hi will the work affect any of the underground lines for wembley we are going to the challenge cup final and will be hoping to use this service to attend the game
Wembley for matches should be via either the Metropolitan Line from Baker Street to Wembley Park station or with Chiltern from Marylebone to Wembley Stadium station. There are NO London Overground, London Northwestern or Bakerloo Line services to Wembley Central.
