On the day that the Mayor of London announced the start of the Night Overground, TfL announced an expansion of video advertising screens in the London Underground. The series of giant advertising screens are coming to tube stations following an upgrade of the older video screens that were trialled in some stations.

The displays, which are 4.5m x 2.4m in size, will be located at 15 tube stations within Zone 1 and Zone 2.

The launch stations for the week commencing this week:

  • Camden Town
  • Piccadilly Circus
  • Holborn
  • Oxford Circus
  • Liverpool Street

Exterion Media, which handles the advertising sales says that the screens will serve 5.5 million adverts per fortnight and that its screens are a “positive disruption to the everyday commute.”

By the end of January, there will be 60 of these displays across 16 stations.

Not that anyone would ever waste time on it, but there’s a fun little tool that lets you see a video of what your advert could look like on buses or in tube stations.

This website has been running now for just over a decade, and while advertising revenue contributes to funding the website, but doesn't cover the costs. That is why I have set up a facility with DonorBox where you can contribute to the costs of the website and time invested in writing and research for the news articles.

It's very similar to the way The Guardian and many smaller websites are now seeking to generate an income in the face of rising costs and declining advertising.

Whether its a one-off donation or a regular giver, every additional support goes a long way to covering the running costs of this website, and keeping you regularly topped up doses of Londony news and facts.

If you like what your read on here, then please support the website here.
