“London City Airport is ramping up efforts to secure a Crossrail station at the airport” – a bit too late now…
There’s existing passive provision for a future City Airport station to be added to the line at a later date.
I’m still moping that the Heathrow Crossrail service is a spur and not a through section. I suppose costs would have been substantial to provide a “slip” out toward Reading, but AFAIK there is actually no provision for a train to run Paddington/Heathrow/Reading – passengers want to travel from Heathrow to Reading will have to change trains at Hayes? And the reverse on the way to Heathrow?
That will make a mainline train to London and a transfer to the HEX faster (but of course more expensive). For those who use Paddington (and that will still be a substantial number of originating/terminating travellers after Crossrail is running) there is no real benefit after all these years of putting up with Crossrail’s disruptions. At least it seems about 30% of the transfer load at peak hours will be removed, but it remains to be seen how timing and pricing of Crossrail works out for Reading area travellers. This is one of the most overcrowded mainline services now, but will passengers want to shift to Crossrail if it takes 20 minutes longer?
