A flurry of publicity earlier this year announced plans to test driverless cars in Greenwich this summer, and now you can register to be a tester.

The driverless cars are adapted from the existing driverless pods that currently ferry people between Heathrow’s Terminal 5 and the distant car parks, and anyone can take a trip in them.

The Heathrow pods however run on a dedicated track, whereas the Greenwich trials will see the pods driving along normal roads without any external guidance.

They’re now looking for volunteers to ride on the automated vehicles and to take part in workshops and interviews about driverless cars in general.

Workshops will take place in Greenwich between June – August 2016 and will provide an opportunity to discuss and debate how driverless vehicles might impact on cities and participate in creative activities.

Each workshop will be 2.5 hours long and are open to both the public and those with a professional interest.

Individual research interviews will look at the attitudes of both drivers and non-drivers and will take place in Greenwich during the vehicle trials.

In order to be put onto the short list to test the new “cars”, you need to fill in a short questionnaire on the Gateway website, and if picked, they will be in touch.
