To all Freemen of the City of London…

sheepdriveThe Worshipful Company of Woolmen will be organising a Sheep Drive across London Bridge this year.

For a donation of £50, a City of London freeman can exercise the ancient right to take sheep across London Bridge.

And we less free men can watch them do it.

Participants will each drive their sheep a quarter of the length of the bridge, and the sheep drive takes place each hour on Sunday 27th September between 10am-4pm.

Proceeds will be divided between the Lord Mayor’s Appeal and The Worshipful Company of Woolmen’s charitable trust.

Expect around 20 sheep, and based on last time this was done, at least 600 freemen to herd them back and forth.

SUPPORT THIS WEBSITE

This website has been running now for just over a decade, and while advertising revenue contributes to funding the website, but doesn't cover the costs. That is why I have set up a facility with DonorBox where you can contribute to the costs of the website and time invested in writing and research for the news articles.

It's very similar to the way The Guardian and many smaller websites are now seeking to generate an income in the face of rising costs and declining advertising.

Whether its a one-off donation or a regular giver, every additional support goes a long way to covering the running costs of this website, and keeping you regularly topped up doses of Londony news and facts.

If you like what your read on here, then please support the website here.

Thank you

I saw one of last year’s drives from the top of a bus and managed to get a couple of not very good photos.
