Later this month, 100,000 giant white balloons will fill the interior of the 19th Century Market Building in Covent Garden.
It’s art, by a French artist, Charles Pétillon who has a long-standing obsession with filling things up with large white balloons. Normally to overflowing, but this time, as a vast “cloud” that will float above the heads of tourists.
The cloud will be 54 metres long, and up to 12 metres wide and will be on-site between 27th August until 27th September.
The artwork is called Heartbeat, because, according to generic artist waffle… “Each balloon has its own dimensions and yet is part of a giant but fragile composition that creates a floating cloud above the energy of the market below. This fragility is represented by contrasting materials and also the whiteness of the balloons that move and pulse appearing as alive and vibrant as the area itself.”
But for the rest of us, lots of balloons filling a great big hall.
Don’t bring a pin.
