Hand-drawn panoramas of London taken from balloons were a staple diet of Victorian newspapers, and in the modern age, similar photos from up high can be equally captivating.

One artist has taken the old and new and blended, to produce ink panoramas of modern London, in the old style.

The artist, Mike Hall says that the composition is based on photographs he took from the viewing gallery at The Shard in February 2013 and was drawn freehand with a fineliner pen on Bristol Board and took around 4 months to complete.

The design features a decorative border and title cartouche with an index of eighty well-known landmarks featured in the drawing which are labelled numerically, and several locations are also labelled with text to orientate the viewer.

A number of sizes of the print are available here.

SUPPORT THIS WEBSITE

This website has been running now for over a decade, and while advertising revenue contributes to funding the website, it doesn't cover the costs. That is why I have set up a facility with DonorBox where you can contribute to the costs of the website and time invested in writing and research for the news articles.

It's very similar to the way The Guardian and many smaller websites are now seeking to generate an income in the face of rising costs and declining advertising.

Whether it's a one-off donation or a regular giver, every additional support goes a long way to covering the running costs of this website, and keeping you regularly topped up doses of Londony news and facts.

If you like what you read on here, then please support the website here.

Thank you

Reminds me a little of Stephen Wiltshire, http://www.stephenwiltshire.co.uk

Perhaps also worth mentioning Hollar’s Long View of London from Bankside from the 1640s, perhaps the first proper panoramic view of London drawn from a single viewpoint (a church tower in Southwark).
