People camping out in the fields around the Glastonbuty Festival have a London interloper amongst their midst — a tube train in fact.

It’s a tube train shaped tent, and from the images, looks to be from the same company that put one up on the South Bank a couple of years ago.

Whether its a PR stunt, or someone is rich enough to pay the £2,000 price it costs is unknown. Then again, it sleeps plenty of people, and with the Festival tickets costing £200 each, the cost of the tent split between the occupants is probably not that much more on top.

Of course, as anyone who catches the late trains will tell you, it’s not that uncommon for people to sleep in tube trains. Although that is usually thanks to the influence of Dionysus, rather than Apollo.

It’s not the first time a tube train has been seen at the Festival though, as one was there in 2011 as well.

SUPPORT THIS WEBSITE

This website has been running now for over a decade, and while advertising revenue contributes to funding the website, it doesn't cover the costs. That is why I have set up a facility with DonorBox where you can contribute to the costs of the website and time invested in writing and research for the news articles.

It's very similar to the way The Guardian and many smaller websites are now seeking to generate an income in the face of rising costs and declining advertising.

Whether it's a one-off donation or a regular giver, every additional support goes a long way to covering the running costs of this website, and keeping you regularly topped up doses of Londony news and facts.

If you like what you read on here, then please support the website here.

Thank you

Not sure about whether the tube tent was a PR stunt or genuine as there was no-one around to ask when I went over for a look, but the ‘other’ tube train (part of the ‘London Underground’ Block9 club) was present again this year, and last year for that matter. It is a very accurate replica of a 1959 stock, as used on the Northern line.

Great, I saw this tent from a distance while at Glastonbury and had meant to go and have a closer look. It looks to be pitched on quite a slope!

Regarding the other ‘tube train’ at Glastonbury, there are some great photos of that impressive installation at http://www.block9.com/London-Underground.html The London Underground club seems to be a permanent Glastonbury fixture now although it’s erected for the festival and broken down afterwards each year.
