Next month, a group are putting on a dining event inside a WW2 bunker underneath Dalston, and will serve up a heady mix of brains to eat, and science to feed the brains in your heads.

A limited number of tickets will be available each night, featuring a five-course meal created by food designers Blanch & Shock.

For daring diners, it will culminate with the serving of real brains.

There will also be gin.

Scientists will accompany the meal to discuss different facets of the mind. and each night members of Headway East London —  charity that supports people affected by brain injury — will share their experiences and personal insights into living with brain injury.

Within the bunker some of the rooms have been converted into art venues, all based around the brain and its thinking.

At £45 it’s not a cheap event, but is certainly different.

Can’t say I will ever look at a cauliflower in quite the same way again though.

Brain Banquet runs March 13 -15, start time 6:30 and ends at 10pm. You need to dress warmly, and wear waterproof shoes. Booking details here.

SUPPORT THIS WEBSITE

This website has been running now for over a decade, and while advertising revenue contributes to funding the website, it doesn't cover the costs. That is why I have set up a facility with DonorBox where you can contribute to the costs of the website and time invested in writing and research for the news articles.

It's very similar to the way The Guardian and many smaller websites are now seeking to generate an income in the face of rising costs and declining advertising.

Whether it's a one-off donation or a regular giver, every additional support goes a long way to covering the running costs of this website, and keeping you regularly topped up doses of Londony news and facts.

If you like what you read on here, then please support the website here.

Thank you

Don’t fancy the bunker, but we used to have brains to eat when I was a little girl, all those years ago, and my memory is that they were simply delicious!
