Look up!

The International Space Station will make one of its occasional passes right over London tomorrow morning and if you know what to look for, you can watch it pass overhead.

As it is so high above us, it’ll look to be almost exactly overhead pretty much regardless of where you are in London.

As it happens, the space station will be visible from London several times over the next few days — but tomorrow morning (Friday) will be the only where it is actually over London itself.

Assuming the skies are cloud-free, to see the ISS, go outside a few minutes before hand and find a location with a decent view of the sky overhead — a back garden or local park.

Face to the west away from the rising sun.

Depending on how much of the horizon you can see, the space station should start to become visible about 7:11am and be directly overhead at about 7:14am

What you are looking for is a fairly fast flying star in the sky flying in a fast straight line running west to east almost exactly overhead. Although the sun will be rising in the morning, it should still be dark enough to make out the space station. Once you spot it — it will become very obvious to the naked eye.

Give it a wave — the astronauts might be looking down at the same time.

SUPPORT THIS WEBSITE

This website has been running now for over a decade, and while advertising revenue contributes to funding the website, it doesn't cover the costs. That is why I have set up a facility with DonorBox where you can contribute to the costs of the website and time invested in writing and research for the news articles.

It's very similar to the way The Guardian and many smaller websites are now seeking to generate an income in the face of rising costs and declining advertising.

Whether it's a one-off donation or a regular giver, every additional support goes a long way to covering the running costs of this website, and keeping you regularly topped up doses of Londony news and facts.

If you like what you read on here, then please support the website here.

Thank you
