An art event inside a disused tube station

Aldwych tube station — opened in 1907 and closed down in 1994 — is to open again for one of its occasional public events.

In fact, with just 450 people using the station each day when it closed, the station now sees vastly more people on these occasional open days than it ever did when open for passengers.

This time, instead of a good nosey around an empty tube station, its an “immersive event” being offered.

Visitors will be taken on an hour long journey through the ticket hall and down onto the platforms during an experience that will “combine film, audio and interactive installations to tell the fascinating stories of forgotten characters, people and places.”

You can also join in with the event in some manner. I can’t pretend to be a huge fan of “immersive art events”, as I prefer my art to stay back behind the barriers thank you very much — but I know a lot of people like it.

And of course, it’s another chance to visit a mothballed tube station.

The show will start on the 3rd Sept, and run on Tuesdays to Sundays and ticket prices range from £20 to £30. Preview tickets will also be available on 30 and 31 Aug and 1 Sept with reduced ticket prices of £15 per person.

More details will be released in July but tickets to “Lost & Found” can be booked in advance from this morning.

These things tend to sell out very quickly — so booking early might be advisable.
