Red Arrows to fly over London on Monday afternoon

A heads up, literally, that the Red Arrows will be flying over London on Monday (10th Sept 2012) afternoon as part of the post-Olympics parade through the city.

The parade itself is due to set out from Mansion House in the City at 1:30pm, with around 700 Olympic and Paralympic athletes travelling on 21 floats. A list of which athletes will be on each float is here.

The parade will travel through the City, past St Paul’s Cathedral, along Fleet Street and into The Strand, before reaching Trafalgar Square. After passing Trafalgar Square the athletes will go through Admiralty Arch into The Mall, travelling down to the Queen Victoria Memorial.

While most of the parade will be open to the public, the Mall will be restricted to people who were involved in the games themselves – and have tickets. A map of the full route is here.

Then, the Red Arrows will fly overhead. However, the RAF have the flypast taking place at 2:46pm, but there is also a special flypast by the British Airways A319 aircraft that carried the Olympic Flame, at just 1,000 feet above the ground due at 3:41pm.

The 3:41-3:46pm time is more likely as the parade arrival at Buckingham Palace is due for 3:30pm. Would be weird to have the flypast an hour before they arrive! I suspect the RAF notice is in GMT, not British summer time.

The flypasts come in from over East London, over Stratford for the Olympic Park, then the City of London and roughly down the Strand, then the Mall, before sweeping over north-west London.

UPDATE:

The RAF have released the details of the other aircraft in the flypast – which has been confirmed for 3:45pm.

Following the British Aircraft plane will be four helicopters, then two fighter jets and a Boeing radar plane, then the Red Arrows.
