Last December, the need to change trains to catch a short shuttle service to Chesham on the Metropolitan Line was abolished as direct trains were introduced as part of the line and train upgrade programme.

This weekend though, the Shuttle service will return again due to the track works cutting the line in half further down the tracks causing some sort of head-scratching problem with the timetable that could only be solved by resurrecting a dead shuttle service.

For two days only, you will again be able to experience the thrill of changing trains at Chalfont & Latimer onto a shortened 4-car Metropolitan Line train to make the trip along the short spur line up to Chesham.

Of course, with the Metropolitan Line closed between Wembley Park and Northwood, getting up to Chalfont & Latimer might prove more arduous than usual – although the walk from the nearish (by Outer London standards) Carpenders Park station looks nice enough.

As is normal for this bit of the line, there are fairly few trains running, with 2 trains per hour in the morning/evenings and a whopping three trains per hour during the afternoon. If you miss one, then at least you have loads of time to take photos of the station.

It’ll be the last time ever that this is possible – well, until next time they dig up the tracks and need to restore the shuttle service.

SUPPORT THIS WEBSITE

This website has been running now for over a decade, and while advertising revenue contributes to funding the website, it doesn't cover the costs. That is why I have set up a facility with DonorBox where you can contribute to the costs of the website and time invested in writing and research for the news articles.

It's very similar to the way The Guardian and many smaller websites are now seeking to generate an income in the face of rising costs and declining advertising.

Whether it's a one-off donation or a regular giver, every additional support goes a long way to covering the running costs of this website, and keeping you regularly topped up doses of Londony news and facts.

If you like what you read on here, then please support the website here.

Thank you
