List of London’s Bonfire Night Fireworks for 2010

Update 5th Nov: The fire strike has been cancelled, so the fireworks are scheduled to go ahead as planned – but the weather is looking unreliable, with a good chance of rain from about 7pm onwards, which may affect some displays.

Time to start planning the annual celebration of the persecution of a Papist plot to kill our Protestant Monarch. Sadly, the burning of effigies seems to be frowned upon now, although a few venues will have bonfires this year.

Thanks to a rare conjunction of the calendar and history, Bonfire Night this year will be on a Friday, so with clever planning it can be possible to attend three firework displays, spread over the whole weekend!

If I’ve missed any (as I am bound to have), then send me a note and I’ll update the details.

  1. That’s a great list Ian – I must get myself organised this year and go along to something. Wanstead Flats is a good one, because as long as you’re not hiding behind a tree you can see the display from anywhere – the surrounding area is as flat as a pancake

Hurrah! I can now link to you instead of Time Out for a list of firework displays. Thanks for that. Link added here.

  3. Tom says:

Just outside London, but I would highly recommend Brockham Bonfire, just outside Dorking (

It’s Britain’s largest, a short trip by train, free and absolutely fantastic.

  4. Matt says:

Ian – one more for the list: Ealing on 6-Nov, gates open 6pm, fireworks & bonfire from 7:30pm, £5 adult, £3 under 14.

There is a display/bonfire & fairground at King Georges Park in Wandsworth too!! : ) Great list!

  6. IanVisits says:

Thanks, Ealing was already on the list though :)

King Georges Park seems to be difficult to find details about – other than a report that Wandsworth Council didn’t want one there.

Thanks for your list. South London does really badly in 2010. Wandsworth and Lambeth between them have Battersea and Clapham Common Thats it. Tooting Common gone. Streatham Common gone. Brockwell Park gone. St Georges Park gone.
For a good show, but with no local connections, the Lord Mayors show Sat Nov 13 at 5pm from a barge in the river is recommended.- thats the city of London mayor, not Boris-
Shame about the cancellations in South London. Firework displays by the local authorities were the only annual mass outdoor gatherings left- and now gone.
Ever wondered why local interest and local authority voting declines?

    • IanVisits says:

Quite a few of the firework shows are not put on by councils but by private organisations.

Blaming the councils might be easy, but a better question might be to ask why so few private organisations “south of the river” are willing to step up to provide a show?

  8. lilly says:

Dont 4get Epsom fireworks and fair.

  9. I wish someone would get around to scheduling a bonfire night celebration either in Westminster or in Kensington & Chelsea – given everything else that goes on in Hyde Park, from huge concerts to funfairs and the like, would it really be impossible to hold a bonfire with some modest fireworks there?

  10. IanVisits says:

There might be some difficulty holding a celebration of the Papist plot to overthrow the Monarchy in a Royal Park ;)

  11. sayed says:

Shame about Alexander Park fireworks! used to be a good display!
