UPDATED 23rd Sept:

All tickets are now SOLD OUT and it is highly unlikely that they will let people go in on the day. I am going tomorrow (Friday) and expect to have a report on this blog in the evening. In the meantime, you can see photos from a previous visit I made to the station platforms.

If you like these sorts of things, then why not sign up for my weekly London Event Listings email?

UPDATED 6th Sept:

The tours will last around 45 minutes and will be led by actors portraying 1940s characters – including a spiv and an ARP warden and will offer a glimpse into what life was like for people travelling and sheltering on the Tube during the Blitz.

The station will be dressed to give a wartime feel and atmosphere and outside, at street level, a pre-war RT8 bus will be parked near Aldwych station in Surrey Street.

Tickets cost £8.50

Telephone 020 7565 7298 020 7565 7455 to book from 10am.

UPDATED 4th Sept:

Tickets for the tours of Aldwych Underground station will be released for sale on Tuesday 7 September.

The Evening Standard may have leaked this a day or two early as the LT Museum booking office hasn’t had the full details confirmed yet – but there will be guided tours of the disused Aldwych tube station later this month running from 24th-26th September.

Absolutely no more information is known yet, so don’t bombard the LT Museum for details. As soon as the details are finalised, they will put it on their website, and my auto-tracking systems will alert me to update this blog post.

Nonetheless, the chance to get down into the bowels of this iconic station is one not to be missed – even though I have actually been down there once before.

Abandoned Platform

More photos to whet your appetite.

I wonder if they read my previous blog post about tours of the disused station and will include the tunnels as well *grins*.

The ticket office floor of the station was opened to the public recently, for the Transforming the Tube exhibition.

SUPPORT THIS WEBSITE

This website has been running now for over a decade, and while advertising revenue contributes to funding the website, it doesn't cover the costs. That is why I have set up a facility with DonorBox where you can contribute to the costs of the website and time invested in writing and research for the news articles.

It's very similar to the way The Guardian and many smaller websites are now seeking to generate an income in the face of rising costs and declining advertising.

Whether it's a one-off donation or a regular giver, every additional support goes a long way to covering the running costs of this website, and keeping you regularly topped up doses of Londony news and facts.

If you like what you read on here, then please support the website here.

Thank you

  3. Ronnie says:

It there a time of the day tickets are likely to go on sale?

  4. hugespunkingcock says:

The tickets have already been made available via agents and are 100% sold. I bought 20 and am willing to sell them on at a special exclusive price.

  5. Ronnie says:

How can they be sold if they are going on sale?

  6. Josh says:

“How can they be sold if they are going on sale?”

I am guessing he is spam considering his name 🙂

  7. Damn, another fantastic once in a blue moon opportunity I’m going to miss because I’m in Germany :

  8. Ronnie says:

Do you think the tickets will sell out fast, I am worried that there be sold out by the time I have a chance to buy some. 12pm.

  9. Ronnie says:

Well I guess they will take a couple of hours. I hope LT are testing the market, and may be planning to start more tours in the future.

2 Hours? I will be very lucky if I get a ticket. 🙁

I am surprised I cant bring “professional equipment”. I have Canon EOS 5D Mark II, but hardly I would judge myself to be professional photographer, it is just a hobby for me. And without solid tripod to take pics in that darknes will be difficult anyway. Do not understand all that fuss.

Anyone knows how many tickets I am allowed to buy? I want to go with friends and we are group of 5. Also any idea how many people can go there at the same time and how many admissions there will be per day? Sorry, i know … too many questions.

  13. Dan C says:

Phoned up at 9am, got straight through and booked my ticket. I was able to take my pick of days/times, so hopefully you should all get tickets.

  14. IanVisits says:

Got mine – going (back again) on Friday afternoon.

  15. Michal says:

just got 5 tickets for me and my friends
    easy easy 🙂

  16. tim says:

Got mine 🙂 No probs. She did ask how many i wanted to buy, so maybe a group of five would be ok. Only one way to find out.

See you on the 24th Aldwych & actors. Actually i think i’d rather have some tube historian or LU expert showing me round rather than actors dressed up, but beggars can’t be choosers!

Cheers for the info Ian. 🙂

  17. Antiquote says:

Am I missing something here? Calling and it either goes to an answerphone or just rings forever. They at lunch already?

  18. Michal says:

try more times, they start at 10am, too early for lunch 🙂

  19. Antiquote says:

Then how on earth have they been selling tickets from 9? *facepalm*

  20. Michal says:

good question. I was trying to call them from 9am and bought tickets at 9:40am
anyway, do not give up and try more times

  21. Andy says:

I was trying the number with little success – then realised that the phone number on the LT Museum page now appears to have changed from what Ian posted above. Calling the -7455 number got me straight through first time.

  22. Michal says:

you obviously called one of many numbers of museum. I tried only the one posted above (…98) and it worked. They maybe changed number on the webpage of this event, but contact page still showing:

    Talks & events bookings: +44 (0)20 7565 7298

  23. Ronnie says:

Got Tickets!!!!!!!!!!!!! I was waiting for at least 5 minutes on the original number when somebody picked up. Cant Wait. I was told there are many tickets left but the phones are busy. Thanks,Ronnie.

  24. Ronnie says:

Looks like Sundays 1938 ride has had to be axed. 🙁

  25. Neil says:

Got my tickets!! I have just tried Ronnie’s approach, call the original number and let it ring and eventually it was answered.

  26. Steve says:

Just called at 12.30 and still had the option for any of the 3 days. Got ansafone several times but redialled straight away got through on about the 5th attempt.

  27. Ian – thanks for the heads up on this, wouldn’t have picked it up had I not seen it on your Twitter timeline. Tried most of the day, got through at about 16h00. Looking forward to it.

FWIW – I agree with Tim, I’d rather have an historian than an actor.

  28. I better get a move on and try and get myself some tickets for this…sounds like fun!

  29. Ian N says:

Still plenty of places left – I just booked – the expected popular lunch/afternoon slots are full but no problem with evening slots. Thanks for the tip off Ian as I have not heard anything about this from the museum themselves despite being a paid up friend for years.

  30. Ronnie says:

I was expecting the tickets to be gone in hours, all that panic for nothing. 🙂
