One of the childish delights of the DLR is to sit at the front and pretend to be a train driver — a joy denied to us on the rest of the tube network. Until now. For two people.

A chance to ride in the drivers cab of a new tube train — which isn’t technically a tube train, but petty pedantry aside…. wooo!

Even well-connected persons struggle to secure permission for a drivers cab trip, so I suspect a lot of tube geeks will be trying to win this one.

To enter, you have to leave a comment on their Facebook page telling them what famous monument the new train would be twice as high as. Which is easy if you don’t know, as you can just read all the other comments and copy them.

The competition ends on 27/05/14 at midnight. You have to be aged 18 or over to enter.

The formal prize is for two places to ride in a driver cab of a Tube car (Circle, District, Metropolitan or Hammersmith and City lines) anytime between June to September 2014.

Failing that, you could apply to become a tube driver, and despite all the talk about driverless trains, TfL actually predicts that it will need more drivers in the future to handle overnight running and as signal upgrades means trains can run closer together — more trains means more drivers.

Or, play on the simulator inside London Underground’s “secret” West Ashfield tube station.

SUPPORT THIS WEBSITE

This website has been running now for over a decade, and while advertising revenue contributes to funding the website, it doesn't cover the costs. That is why I have set up a facility with DonorBox where you can contribute to the costs of the website and time invested in writing and research for the news articles.

It's very similar to the way The Guardian and many smaller websites are now seeking to generate an income in the face of rising costs and declining advertising.

Whether it's a one-off donation or a regular giver, every additional support goes a long way to covering the running costs of this website, and keeping you regularly topped up doses of Londony news and facts.

If you like what you read on here, then please support the website here.
