For the first time ever, Parliament’s State Apartments inside Speaker’s House are to be opened to the public in a short series of guided tours.
Tickets have gone on sale today for the guided tours of The State Apartments of Speaker’s House, which for over 160 years has hosted visits and dinners for Royalty and Heads of State. During this guided tour, you will be able to visit the newly renovated State Apartments of Speaker’s House, the part of the Palace of Westminster where the Speaker conducts official business and resides. You will discover the history and traditions of the role of the Speaker and see the magnificent artworks on display.
The one-hour tours include the Grand Staircase, the Crimson Drawing Room, the State Dining Room, and the State Bedroom. The tour starts and finishes in Westminster Hall which you are welcome to explore afterwards.
The tours will run for just 9 days in April between Monday 4th and Thursday 14th April 2022.
Tours cost £13 per person and can be booked from here.
The tours are fully accessible.
All profits from these tours will go to the Speaker’s Art Fund, which supports arts and educational projects with a focus on increasing understanding of Parliamentary democracy across the UK.
One; it’s really not enough time to immerse yourself in either the history and/or the flock wallpaper and
Two; how refreshing that the cost is so reasonable.
His or her job somehow finds a calmly authoritative Speaker from the motley crew of members ~ viz the present encumbent and most of his predecessors ~ and I include good ol’ Betty on that list too.
