About National Archives

The collection of government records office documents that is open to the public to visit for research purposes. Visitors to the Readers Room will need an entry card which can be applied for from the Archives website.

There's also a regular series of public events and exhibitions.

Visits to the archives are free. Some events and exhibitions may charge a fee.

Opening Hours

The National Archives is generally open Monday to Saturday from 9:30am to 5pm, with late closing at 7pm on Tueswday and Thursdays.

The archives is also open on the first Sunday of the month.

The opening hours were last checked January 2023.

Accessibility

The whole building is fully accessible with lifts to all floors.
