With an increase in people cycling, and a decrease in people clubbing, a Shoreditch venue is turning its space into a bicycle storage park.

Village Underground, the arches famous for having a couple of old tube trains on the roof is opening the VU Cycle Park next week, with secure bicycle storage from 6am-10pm Mon-Sat, and repair services on Tuesdays.

They can hold over 400 bikes, so that’s a lot of cyclists heading to work in their warehouse spaces now having somewhere to store the bike during the day.

The rates are £5 per day, or £1 to £1.50 per hour depending on the time of day.

Even if you don’t work that close, the idea of storing your bike in a nightclub is a novel one that’s worth a modest detour.

More details here.

Cycle Park is a temporary measure while the venue is shuttered for its normal events.

Unrelated to the bikes, they will also be selling a range of IPAs, beers, wines and spirits from the VU bar to take home, as well as speciality coffees available up until midday.

This website has been running now for over a decade, and while advertising revenue contributes to funding the website, it doesn't cover the costs. That is why I have set up a facility with DonorBox where you can contribute to the costs of the website and time invested in writing and research for the news articles.

It's very similar to the way The Guardian and many smaller websites are now seeking to generate an income in the face of rising costs and declining advertising.

Whether it's a one-off donation or a regular giver, every additional support goes a long way to covering the running costs of this website, and keeping you regularly topped up doses of Londony news and facts.
