Almost missed this one – but as part of the D-Day events this weekend, there is a chance to ride around Colindale in an Armoured Personnel Carrier — or as they put it, a tank.
Technically, not a tank, but surely even the most tedious of pedants will not begrudge them that?
The FV432 — which is the APC in question — was introduced in the early 1960s, around the 3000 were built, it has seen service all over the world with the British Army. Recent upgrades has seen its service life extended under the name of Bulldog.
Depending on your perspective about the area, an opportunity to lay waste to the local architecture is not on offer. Nor sadly I presume, a chance to tear up the lawn of the local police training grounds.
Tours will depart from the RAF Museum and all slots must be pre-booked.
Tickets can be reserved here.
Each tank tour lasts for 20 minutes and costs £8 – arrive on site 10 minutes before your booking.
Of course, the rest of the RAF Museum is also worth a look if you’ve never been before, and it is entirely free to go inside.
