If you’re an auction house needing to show off a load of luxury cars, why not put them in a museum for a few days?

That’s what Silverstone Auctions will be doing for a few days next month, so the RAF Museum’s huge hangers full of military planes and helicopters will be joined by a load of expensive cars — for us to look at and others with deeper pockets to buy.

Some years ago, Bonhams used to do something similar, and it’s usually a very good way of getting to see a luxury car exhibition for free. The vehicles will be on display in Hangers 3 to 5 from Thursday 3rd until Sunday 6th March and visitors will be able to view them.

As with the rest of the RAF Museum, the display is free to visit, but you should book a ticket in advance.

The nearest tube station is Colindale on the Northern line, and the museum is about a 10-minute walk.

The actual auction will be taking place in Hangar 6 on Saturday and Sunday.  Hangar 6 will be closed to the public on these dates but you can register on their website to attend the bidding, or visit on the Thur/Fri before.

This website has been running now for over a decade, and while advertising revenue contributes to funding the website, it doesn't cover the costs. That is why I have set up a facility with DonorBox where you can contribute to the costs of the website and time invested in writing and research for the news articles.

It's very similar to the way The Guardian and many smaller websites are now seeking to generate an income in the face of rising costs and declining advertising.

Whether it's a one-off donation or a regular giver, every additional support goes a long way to covering the running costs of this website, and keeping you regularly topped up doses of Londony news and facts.

If you like what you read on here, then please support the website here.

Thank you
